Convoy For a Cure is an all women convoy that was started in Ontario, Canada last year by Rachele Champagne. It has grown to 3 Convoys in Canada, and one in Texas. The purpose is to raise awareness and money to find a cure for Breast Cancer.
The Texas Convoy was organized by Cindy Stowe, a driver for FFE. Thirty-five trucks participated, representing 22 companies. The Convoy of Women Drivers was followed by the Support Convoy of Male Drivers. The Texas Convoy raised $12,600. All four 2009 convoys raised $94,000, with donations still coming in.
Because Breast Cancer touches so many people's lives, there was considerable interest in this convoy. Terry and Clarence's dear friend, Karen is fighting Stage 4 Breast Cancer. Friends made donations in her honor, and a large banner was printed and displayed on the truck for the Convoy. Other friends and family members made donations in honor of people they knew that were fighting Breast Cancer, or in memory of someone that had battled the disease. Their names and pictures were displayed on the truck as well. They raised and donated $385.
The Convoy For a Cure USA 2010 will be hosted by Willie's Place again, next October. Terry and Clarence plan to participate and look forward to everyone's support.
